The Left Banke were a late 1960's band from New York with a unique sound. Critics labeled them "baroque-pop" due to the
classical influences in their music. Besides three songs that hit the Billboard charts, "Walk Away Renee," "Pretty Ballerina," and "Desiree," the group left behind a legacy of music that influenced notable musicians ranging from Leonard Bernstein to Alice Cooper. |

| »Jeff Winfield (November 1, 1948 - June 11, 2009) |
|
Jeff Winfield, the original guitarist for the Left Banke, passed away June 11, 2009 after a long battle with pneumonia. Jeff’s fuzz guitar is featured on the track "Lazy Day," found on the Left Banke's first LP. He also appeared with the group on the popular 60s television show Where The Action Is. After he was replaced in the Left Banke by Rick Brand, Jeff went on to join another group called Birth of Spring which released two singles for Mercury in 1968. Jeff eventually turned to photography, running a successful studio for a while and also worked in the film industry. He returned to music in 1984 to record some tracks he had composed and played guitar on. These sessions were put together in 2007 as a digital album called The Switch. Thanks to Jeff and his friends from providing much of the rare Left Banke memorabilia on this site. RIP Jeff.
